SX12 Connection Issues

Connecting to the SX12 for the 1st time

1. When first connecting to the SX12 you must make sure the SX12 is in Wi-Fi mode. This is done by pressing the power button on the side of the SX12. Refer to the table below for LED definitions.

2. Open Trimble Access

3. Sign In with your Trimble ID (subscription users).

4. Press the Main Menu icon  

5. Go to Settings, Connections

6. Select the Wi-Fi tab (a).

7. Trimble Access will automatically scan for available Wi-Fi devices. If the SX12 does not appear press (b) to rescan. If you still cannot see the SX12 refer to step 1

8. Select your SX12 (c)

9. Press Accept (d)

10. The SX12 will prompt you for a password.

11. The password will be "SX12_serial number" Example: SX12_30274568

Changing SX12 Wi-Fi Channel

If you have too many SX12’s in the area that are on the same Wi-Fi channel you may get connectivity issues. To change your Wi-Fi channel, follow these steps:

1. Connect to your SX12 to your controller via Trimble Access

2. In Trimble Access press the Main Menu icon

3. Go to Instrument, Instrument Settings

4. Select Wi-Fi (a)

5. Press the drop-down menu “Channel Name” (a) and select a different channel. There are only 3 options: 1,6 & 11.

6. Press Accept.

Changing SX12 Radio Settings

1. Connect to your SX12 via Wi-Fi. You must be in Wi-Fi mode to change the radio settings.

2. In Trimble Access press the Main Menu icon

3. Go to Settings, Connections

4. Go to the Radio Settings (a) tab

5. Change the radio channel to any value between 1 – 30.

6. Change the Network ID to any value between 1 – 255.

7. Press Accept (d)

Switching between Radio and Wi-Fi modes on the SX12

1. Open any job in Trimble Access.

2. The SX12 icon (a) at the top of the screen will tell you if you are in Wi-Fi or Long-Range Radio.

3. To switch between modes, press the SX12 icon (a)

4. Select “Connections”

5. If you are in Wi-Fi mode, “Switch to LR radio” will be visible. Select “Switch to LR radio” to go into this mode.

6. If you are in Long Range radio mode, “Switch to Wi-Fi” will be visible. Select “Switch to Wi-Fi” to go into this mode.

SX12 WiFi Password

If Trimble Access is asking you for a password to connect to your SX12 it will default to either:

• SX12_serial number (Example: SX12_6154789)
• 1234567890

To reset the password using the SX12 Power button

1. If an instrument password has previously been stored on the controller, go to the WiFi settings tab and tap Forget password.
2. Press the Power button rapidly on the instrument 5 times to reset the password stored in the instrument firmware to the factory default password. The instrument shuts down.
3. Press the Power button once on the instrument to start up the instrument.
4. When you attempt to connect to the instrument using Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi HaLow, the Trimble Access software prompts you to change the password from the factory default password to a password of your choice.
